Albertville was established around 1850 and incorporated as a city on February 18, 1891.

The city was named after Thomas A. Albert one of the first residents of the area.

The first post office was established on January 13, 1860.

Some of the first families to settle in the area were:  Bentley, Miller, Cryar, Garrard, and Albert.

The early doctors of the area included Dr. W.T. Albert (1st) Dr. W.M. Scarborough (He was possibly the first full-time physician in the area.), Dr. Agrippa Scott who was said to have been an Albertville citizen longer than anyone else.

The first hospital in the area was established in May of 1917.

Northeast Alabama Agricultural School & Experiment Station began classes in 1894 and was destroyed by fire on January 12, 1912.  Estimated damages were $18,000 - $20,000.

The first electric system was built by the city in 1908.

City water was established on August 19, 1909 and a water tank was completed in 1911 with a cost of $20,600.

One of the largest tornadoes to touch down in Alabama destroyed Main Street killing 28 people and injuring another 150 on April 24, 1908.  To illustrate the magnitude of this storm a check drawn on J.F. Hooper Bank by T.J. Sadler (a victim of the storm) was found the next day by James B. Tygart in his pasture just  three miles from Whitehall, Tennessee.
