Origin of name is not a clear subject. Geraldine was called Lee prior to the time when William A. Johnson applied for the post office in 1882. The origin of the name Geraldine is unknown.

Post office was established on October 11, 1882, by William A. Johnson.

First families to settle in this area were: Elrod, Rucks, Houston, Spence, and Johnson.

Important people who helped shape the community were William A. Johnson. He donated 7 acres of land, which is the site of the present day school.

Early doctors to this area were: Dr. McClain, Dr. Garrett, Dr. William Elrod, Dr. J.J. Wyatt, Dr. Joe Harrison, Dr. Griff Elrod, Dr. A.L. Isbell, Dr. Walter Miller, and Dr. William Preston.

First school to be accredited in DeKalb county as a rural high school and first vocational school.

First sizeable industry was a government still that specialized in apple and peach brandy.

Event that had a profound impact on the community was when Dr. William Elrod substituted steam-powered machinery for the unreliable water power of Town Creek. October of 1893 an explosion at the mill killed 2 men and injured another.
