| Martling's first settlers were members of a wagon train from Georgia. A small group of people remained as a result of the death of a child. The parents and other relatives did not want to leave the child behind as the wagon train traveled on so they decided to settle in the area. It soon became known that the land was full of wild game and small streams and the settlement began to grow. |
