This community was established in 1874 and was once called “Luna”. Pleasant hill had a post office from July 1880 until December of 1905. Some of the first families to settle in the area were the Smiths, Brocks, and the Hilleys. One of the most important people that helped make the community what it is today is Jack Smith. He is the original owner of “Smith Grocery” one of the first established businesses in the area. Mr. Smith was one of the original scout--masters for the local Boy Scout Troop. He also owns the infamous Devil’s Den. The Devil’s Den is a very interesting attraction to the area. The first school was established in the early 1900’s and was called Spaulding School. This was the only school in the area until the consolidation with Fyffe and Plainview in the 1930’s. Some of the first industries to the community were a cotton gin, a gristmill, and a sawmill. These companies were in operation from 1931 until about 1946. The community General Store, established around the turn of the century, is still in operation today. The store is called “Smith Grocery”.
