Powell was established in 1905.

"Doc" Powell moved to the area and built a village.  Owning 500 acres on which he built his family a large home.  He also built and operated a large store that offered everything the local people needed to survive.  The merchandise for his store was hauled in on four mule freight wagons from the railroad in Fort Payne.

An early doctor to the area was Dr. Bailey who would make house calls whenever someone needed him.
